Sugaring is a hair removal process that is typically much less painful and damaging to your skin. In recent years the process of sugaring has risen in popularity as a safe, economic and convenient hair removal process. As it utilises natural ingredients, sugaring is generally seen as a much less damaging method of hair removal.
Essentially, a warmed sugaring paste is applied to the skin’s surface and then pressed (e.g. with cotton strips). When the cotton strips are removed, the paste and the hair comes with it. The sugaring process can be used on practically all areas of the body, including: eyebrows, upper lip, legs and arms. Men should typically avoid sugaring on facial hair, as it has a different hair root system.
While sugaring is a safe hair removal process, some report a slight sting as the paste is taken off the skin. It is common for the skin to maintain a red colouring after the sugaring process.
It is important to note that there is a significant difference between the waxing and sugaring procedures. While wax sticks to both the hair and the skin, sugaring only sticks to the hair. Furthermore, while wax is applied at height hot or cold temperatures, the sugaring paste is applied at room temperature (or lukewarm).
